Happy new year !

We wish you all a rich and peaceful 2025!

News from Liberia

Worship time at school

Two months ago we left England and the onset of winter. A week later we were back home at the start of the dry season.

It’s amazing how it always takes time to readapt to our environment. Caleb couldn’t remember which bed was his. We felt some family tension for the first few weeks, but gradually we knew that “everyone had really landed!

The children went back to school well. Caleb had a harder time adjusting. But we’re grateful for the school on campus and for the teachers who have come to teach there.

So many changes in 6 months

We soon noticed that we were returning to a very different team from the one we had left 6 months earlier.

There was a new head of security, a new person in charge of human resources (it was Melvina who took on this role alongside her other responsibilities), a new director for the hospital, and an extra person for everything to do with maintenance and the water and electricity systems. What’s more, the crisis unit set up in March 2024 is still there to help manage the crisis. As we’ve said before, setting this big ship ELWA on a new course requires a lot of wisdom, perseverance and good teamwork. We’re relieved to have new, qualified and motivated people on board!

The financial side is always a huge challenge, but at least we’re not carrying the load alone. Several people are now tackling this difficult issue.

Great visitors!

We were delighted to welcome the Schorer family (Melvina’s sister) for Christmas. They stayed with us for 3 weeks and we were very encouraged by their visit! Nicolas, who has resumed his role as SIM Director, was able to take days off here and there. Melvina decided to take her time before resuming her responsibilities and to be available and enjoy her visiting family!

A few photos speak louder than words!

We are very grateful to be back in Liberia and feeling more peaceful. We thank you all for your support and encouragement over the past year.

With our friendship,

Melvina, Nicolas, Théotime, Siméon, Gabriel and Caleb
